The media training will be held from 7th to 11th of July 2014 at Bishkek. During the training, participants will increase their theoretical and practical knowledge of creation of content focused on ethnic issue and sharpen the skills of applying multimedia technologies.
38 journalists representing 26 formally registered media outlets registered in the Kyrgyz Republic have applied: TV, Radio and online outlets. Representatives of the media from all regions have shown interest in the contest.
The board of experts has been guided by the following criteria when selecting the participants: production/available programs and columns dedicated to interethnic topic in the media applying for the participation in the training, high level of motivation of journalists, original ideas of future media projects, basic knowledge of an applicant about the diversity, technical skills and internetworking skills, expected outcomes of training, etc.
The board has taken into account CVs and cover letters of applicants, as well as the letters of recommendation from media executives.
The training will be held by professional media experts of USA, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan with extensive experience of reporting diversity and working with new media.
Eran Fraenkel is an outstanding media expert, international trainer in peacemaking journalism, author of researches on the role of the media during conflict situations. In 2012, Eran held training in production of team reports in the post-conflict area for the Kyrgyz journalists at Bishkek.
Gulim Amirkhanova is a journalist, multimedia expert in Kazakhstan, founder of technoblog http://best-app.ru. Gulim is applying the method developed on the basis of her own practice. She is the author of trainings in new media, online promotion of media, multimedia services, etc.
Zaiyrbek Ergeshov is the expert of the department of ethnic, religious policy and interaction with the civil society at the Kyrgyz Republic Presidential Administration. Zaiyrbek has taken part in the development of the concept of unity of people and interethnic relations in the Kyrgyz Republic; he has scientific and research experience in diversity.
On the last day of training, the journalists will have an opportunity to apply to the contest for technical support for modernization of their editorial offices and production of quality programs and reports on ethnic, language and cultural diversity of Kyrgyzstan.
The contest was announced by the School of Peacemaking and Media Technology as part of the Encouraging Diversity through Media project funded by the Freedom of Information Program of Soros Foundation – Kyrgyzstan.
